I have been lucky enough to have enjoyed many different types of holiday from braving the roller coasters in America, walking the Welsh mountains and even soaking up the sun in Spain.
I still have a few experiences I would love to try out. Top of my list is trying my hand at the fruit machines in Las Vegas. One of my friends has just returned from there and she said it is absolutely brilliant. You really can gamble 24 hours a day. She said that although she had lost a lot of money, she had sensibly set herself a daily limit, so didn’t really mind as the whole experience of Las Vegas was fantastic.
I would really like to experience a safari holiday.
Safaris are meant to be absolutely fabulous. On a recent visit to Orlando, I was fortunate to visit Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park and I got a little insight into what a safari holiday might be like. Of course as Disney is so well run, there is never going to be a chance of any of the animals actually getting close to you. Imagine what it must be like on a real safari, being within a whiskers touch of a lion. I bet that must feel absolutely exhilarating.
Holidays to South Africa are certainly gaining in popularity and are a great holiday choice.
The problem is that keen as I am to book a safari break, the one thing that really stops me is the thought of all those spiders. I really hate the things. They scare me rigid. It’s stupid when you compare their size to mine. I think it’s the fact that they can move so fast on those big fat hairy legs. It’s a shame really as my fear has unfortunately rubbed off on both the children and my husband has had to get up many a time during the night to get rid of spiders in the kids bedrooms.
A word of warning though, whatever you do DO NOT hoover up a spider into a paper hoover bag. My mother in law did this once and a little while later she couldn’t understand why the hoover bag was moving around so much. The spider had decided the hoover bag was as good a place as any to have her babies, so there were hundreds of spiders. It was absolutely hilarious and an experience she is keen never to repeat.
Now if a travel company could somehow guarantee me a safari minus spiders, I would be there tomorrow. If not, then it looks like somehow I am going to have to work at overcoming my fear. How strange that a huge creature like a lion doesn’t phase me at all, just a tidily little spider!!
